The story begins here

One generation from now, what will remain worth protecting?

An America its people still recognize. Institutions they no longer trust. Ordinary families who must decide where they stand.

The Novel

America, 2049

Eulogy for the Stripes is a dystopian thriller set in a fractured America in 2049, one generation from now, as the constitutional republic begins to unravel.

The story opens in the Texas Panhandle, where a faith-based community has pooled its remaining resources to flee increasingly dangerous cities and establish a tiny-home settlement centered on a church.

The novel does not rely on nuclear war, a pandemic, or an EMP to create its dystopia. Its threat is more grounded: a recognizable reality pushed several steps farther down the road.

It is a cautionary tale about institutional pressure, constitutional erosion, and a future that may feel closer than we would like to admit.

The Reader’s Archive

Beyond the Pages of Eulogy

I grew up reading Stephen King and Tom Clancy, wondering how they built the worlds behind their stories, before readers could easily glimpse an author’s creative process online.

This website is a companion to Eulogy for the Stripes: a place to explore its locations, music, imagery, interviews, artifacts, commentary, and the thinking behind the novel. Each element deepens the experience without replacing the story on the page.

Why I Wrote This Story

I wrote Eulogy for the Stripes because freedom rarely disappears all at once. It erodes under fear, pressure, and compromises that seem reasonable in the moment.

Years spent in high-stakes environments taught me how much people depend on institutions and technology functioning as intended. I wanted to explore what happens when those systems still function but no longer serve the people who rely on them. At the heart of the novel are ordinary families forced to decide who they will be when stability, trust, and lawful order can no longer be taken for granted.

Proud Place after dark

Under Clear Texas Skies

Beyond the fences and watchtowers, the Texas Panhandle opens into a sky that feels almost endless.
Beneath those stars, Proud Place becomes both sanctuary and warning—a beautiful refuge already living under pressure.

Official Author Bio

Michael McGehee brings a deeply personal perspective to dystopian fiction, drawing on his commitment to family, faith, and the values that define the American spirit.

The dedication of Eulogy for the Stripes to his wife, Céline; his children, Victoria and Michael; and his parents, Angeles and Edgar, reveals the heart behind the narrative: a man who understands what is worth protecting.

With a special acknowledgment of military personnel, law enforcement officers, and first responders, McGehee writes stories that honor those who guard the line on which others depend.

Inspired by classic works of political philosophy and grounded in the landscapes of the American Southwest, his writing explores the tension between liberty and tyranny, asking readers to consider what they would sacrifice when everything they love hangs in the balance.

Eulogy for the Stripes is his debut novel.
